HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT AT UC BERKELEY
Use the EH&S on-line Hazardous Waste Program (HWP) to create hazardous waste labels and request a waste pick up. Toxic, flammable, corrosive and reactive chemicals become hazardous waste when they are spent or no longer used.
To access the HWP, click on the "Hazardous Waste Program" button below and enter your CalNet ID (get one at CalNet ID if you do not have one).
TURN OFF YOUR POP-UP BLOCKER BEFORE ENTERING:
First time HWP users must take a short training on how to manage hazardous waste.
- The words "HAZARDOUS WASTE"
- The words "UC Berkeley," your Building Name and Room Number
- The accumulation start date (first drop of waste)
- The physical state (liquid, solid or gas)
The chemical components (for example, formaldehyde and water)
- The hazardous property (toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive)
As soon as the HWP web site becomes available again, enter the information so that the container is properly tracked.
The label will show the "start date" (the day you begin filling the container and print the container label). Please request a pick-up of your waste within 6 months (or 3 days if the waste is extremely hazardous and you have >1 Liter or 2.2 pounds). The HWP will email you when the date is nearing the allowable storage time.
